High potential and gifted education
At Glenfield Public School, we are committed to ensuring that every student is known, valued and cared for while being challenged to reach their full potential. Our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) programs provide opportunities for students to extend their learning, build critical and creative thinking skills and engage in enrichment activities that go beyond the core curriculum.
Through evidence-based explicit teaching and differentiation, teachers design learning that fosters deep engagement for high potential students across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. Students participate in enrichment opportunities such as debating, coding, dance, art, environmental initiatives and academic challenges that nurture their individual strengths and talents.
Our approach is underpinned by data-informed practices, collaborative planning and professional learning for staff to embed HPGE strategies in everyday classroom practice. This ensures that advanced learners are supported with rigorous and meaningful experiences while still maintaining a strong sense of belonging within their peer groups.
We are proud to be part of the Leader Project with James Meehan High School, which provides extended opportunities for high potential learners to collaborate, take on leadership roles and showcase their skills. Each year, our students also participate in the Community of Schools James Meehan Cup, where they connect with peers from local schools in academic, creative and sporting challenges.
By cultivating curiosity, resilience and leadership, our HPGE programs prepare students to thrive not only in their schooling but also as confident contributors to the wider community. At Glenfield, we believe that every student can strive to achieve and for our high potential learners, that means being encouraged to excel, innovate and inspire.
